“Introduce Yourself” they say…

This is a brief overview whilst I decide to tell all in my own way

Allow me to introduce myself. Such an overused entry.

I am M. A. Wallbank (“M” stands for Michael, “A” stands for Andrew) and my writing story has only just begun, really. I don’t have the deeply depressing childhood that hallmarks a great artist, but things weren’t by any shape of the imagination easy growing up. We never had a lot of money spare. It is not an excuse, nor a reason, but a situation that many of us found ourselves in when we were younger. Dad was a long term renal patient that i would only really see on weekends as he was always doing the afternoon shift at Cadbury’s. Sometimes on weekends as well. He’d often get home just after midnight. With a light catch-up with the TV and a snack, he’d then be off to bed. Mum was in charge of the household in the evenings. She would get up real early to start for work at Adidas, which was for her around six in the morning. My sister and I usually had to organise ourselves, especially if Dad wasn’t up to help us in the morning. Understandable if he was going to dialysis or wanted a sleep in.

This was the way of things for a long time. We were a regular nuclear family. All in our 11 square house.

I love Paleontology, writing, being a plus sized runner (trail running I love the most), my family and my Labrador, Rosy. She’s a spunk.

I never was really into writing big time when I was growing up in my house in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne. I was more into illustration and for a long time i was either going to be a paleontologist or an artist of, well, some sort.

Neither came to fruition. Not yet, at least…

I have been writing for some time now. Just to bash out ideas mainly. I do, however have one story that has a very clear direction and plot. i hope to share this in some way soon. Other stories have a construct, but need some love and attention to bring them to life

Some of my projects currently in the works:

  • Working title of “Undermine”. This is a post-apocalyptic tale of an ordinary kid caught up in a conspiracy about the truth of the post-apocalyptic world he inadvertently helped to create.
  • The Ropen. A tale in the style of Matthew Reilly of a team of people with contrasting allegiances trying to prove/disprove the existence of a cryptoid in the face of a multinational commercial mining right of a pacific island
  • This Mortal Coil. A young police officer discovers the truth between the characters of heaven and hell, and the fact that they are not what they seem.

I am at different stages with each of these stories. I am however in progress with a number more. I was given some wise advice by a friend of mine who is published with her own sci-fi series, that it is important to not be working with more than you can deal with at one time. I, therefore, am focusing on the above three in the most part.

I will as part of this blog, provide updates on where i am at. I’ll also share useless crap for entertainment too.

Anyway, that’s a brief overview. I hope you find my musings worthwhile.
