“There’s somethin’ strange out there…”

The Ropen is a mythical creature known as a cryptid (an animal of fable that is rumored to exist to those who have seen them) and is purportedly attacking locals of a fishing village in New Guinea. Irony it would seem at the same time, that a large multi-national mining company has a new interest in the island as it has been discovered that a rare earth mineral is in large abundance in its deposits worth trillions of dollars. When people start dying, the authorities become involved…

A retired Australian ex-serviceman and an unwilling West Papuan adversary from his past team up to aid the locals and seek out the truth behind the myth. And who, or what, is responsible.

Dean Broughton is just trying his best to survive the harsh reality of what he calls his “normal”. The world economy has collapsed, politics has been replaced with oppression and martial law. He has a regular life without a father figure but a keen interest in how things work. He knows little of his family and his history and has a yearning to explore. His world has been turned upside down after a long, bloody World War III and subsequent invasion from foreign forces. And if that was not enough, a quartet of asteroids the size of Uluru is headed toward earth.

There is a growing threat from groups all around him that he somehow must navigate whilst trying to understand his past. How will he survive the oncoming apocalypse? What does he discover that links him to the chain of events unfolding across the planet, and can he find a way to rectify the situation for all?
